Saturday saw the competition of the First Round of the Essex County Boys Basketball Tournament. Eight teams were eliminated leaving eight teams surviving to the Quarterfinal Round.
Seton Hall (1) defeated Belleville (16),
Arts (8) won over Payne Tech (9). Arts will play Seton Hall.
East Side (4) eliminated West Essex (20),
Caldwell (5) moved past West Side (12). Caldwell travels to East Side.
Immaculate Conception (2) was victorious over Orange (18),
East Orange (7) defeated Bloomfield (10). East Orange faces Immaculate Conception.
Central (3) won over North Star Academy (14),
University (11) upset Columbia (6). Central and University play next.
All Quarterfinal Round games are scheduled to be played at the higher seed on Saturday, February 12th.
