It’s been an unusual Great Newark Baseball Tournament this year. Weather has affected play and there have been upsets along the way. One team, Barringer, made an unexpected run from the 17th seed to the Quaterfinal Round.
On Saturday, at Verona’s historic Doc Goeltz Field in what could not really be called an upset, Seton Hall Prep, the 4th seed, moved past top seeded Millburn to advance. The score was 3-1. The two teams had split their two regular season meetings.
In the second contest, with the threat of rainstorms looming, Bloomfield, seeded 7th, handled Nutley with a shutout win. It will be The Bengals first trip to the GNT final since 1997.
The championships game is scheduled for a noon start on Saturday, May 21 at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University.
